POL 319 examines the institutions and processes that international actors use to collectively address global problems. Toward that end, we'll survey intergovernmental organizations including the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization; touch on the role and importance of nongovernmental organizations and other non-state actors; and explore the prospects for multilateral cooperation and global governance in a fragmented world. Along the way, we'll address a range of global issues including trade, development, security, the environment, and human rights.
